Jacarandas thrive in tropical and warm temperate climates, but they can be grown in cooler areas that get light frosts, but they usually don’t flower as well in these cooler zones, and they are also slower-growing, and smaller there.

Jacarandas like a sunny position and well-drained, fertile soil, plus regular summer watering. Mulching around the roots with organic material (eg, compost, straw, bark, etc) will help to retain soil moisture in summer, but only apply the mulch over the moist ground, not over dry ground, otherwise, the mulch might prevent rain from reaching the soil. A thickness of no more than 50mm of mulch is recommended.

Planting And Care

1. Plant the tree in an open spot with sandy soil and full sun.
2. Keep the soil moist deep down by soaking it with a hose for half an hour, but letting it dry out in between watering.
3. Care for a jacaranda tree almost always includes pruning.
4. In order to give it the best shape to show off those blooms, smaller branches should be trimmed early in the spring.
